Diesel Exhaust/Diesel Particulate Matter

OSHA Hazard Alert

Diesel powered equipment are used in a variety of industries including construction. Most heavy and medium-duty trucks are equipped with diesel engines, as well as heavy equipment such as bulldozers and tractors.

The Diesel Exhaust (DE) from these trucks and equipment produces Diesel Particulate Matter (DPM) that includes soot particles and gases, including carbon monoxide, that can cause health hazards when engineering and administrative controls are not used to protect workers.

OSHA has released a "Hazard Alert" with examples of controls to reduce exposures to DPM.
